Ingredients
- 3.5 lb / 1600 g Granny Smith apples (around 7-9)
- 1 egg
- 1/3 cup flour
- 1 1/2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 prepared pie crust
- 1/2 tsp salt

- In a large bowl combine the sugar, flour, cinnamon and salt

- Mix the spices together thoroughly

- Add sliced apples and lemon juice and toss to coat

- Lay out the one prepared pie crust on baking tray and fold the edges up

Add the apples to the prepared pie crust in a circular pattern from the centre

Carefully place the second crust over the apples and press it gently to adhere to the lower crust
Fold overhanging crust over and push the edges together
Finally, cut a small hole in the centre to vent

Chill the entire pie in the fridge for 15 minutes and preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit / 220 degrees Celsius
Remove the pie from the fridge and brush with egg wash. Then, sprinkle the top of the pie with the remaining 1 tablespoon sugar
Place the pie on a baking sheet in the lower third of the oven and bake for 15 minutes.

Reduce the oven temperature to 350 degrees Fahrenheit / 180 degrees Celsius.
Bake for an additional hour to an hour and 15 minutes until the apples are tender and the crust is golden
Serve on its own or with ice cream and enjoy!
