Sweet & Sour Pork

A delicious and flavoursome Chinese dish that is sure to go down well, especially with guests

Ingredients

  1. 1 & 1/2 lb / 680 g pork
  2. 1 onion
  3. 2 tomatoes
  4. 3 cloves garlic
  5. 1/4 cup oil
  6. 1 bell pepper (capsicum)
  7. 3 tbsp ketchup
  8. 1/4 cup rice wine vinegar
  9. 1-2 tbsp soy sauce
  10. 1/4 cup rice flour
  11. 1/3 cup brown sugar

Recipe

01.

  • Place the pork in a medium bowl
  • Season all over with salt and sprinkle the rice flour over the top
  • Lightly mix and set aside

  • Combine soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, ketchup and brown sugar in a medium bowl and whisk to combine
  • Set aside the sauce

  • Add 1 tbsp. of oil in a large skillet on medium heat. Once hot, add bell pepper, onion, tomatoes and garlic
  • Cook the vegetables about 1 minute then transfer vegetables to a large plate

  • Return the skillet to medium heat add remaining oil
  • Once hot, add pork and cook until  brown (about 90 sec. per side)

  • Pour the sweet and sour sauce in to the skillet with the pork
  • Increase heat and cook, until sweet and sour sauce thickens, about2-3 minutes
  • Add vegetables back in to pot combine and cook them

Serve hot, over white rice. Garnish with thinly sliced green onions as desired
